What is Home Health Care?

If you are healing from an injury or getting back on your feet following an illness, traveling to and from doctor
visits can present challenges. Therapy may be necessary to regain your health, but it can be hard to make scheduled appointments without help from family and friends. If this describes you or someone you are taking care of, you have choices.

For patients who have a have a hard time getting around, home health care can be a great choice. These services allow patients to receive care in the comfort and privacy of their own home. This option can help remove some of the burdens on caregivers while allowing patients to remain independent in familiar surroundings.

What is Home Health Care?

Home health is health care services provided wherever a patient lives. Patients receive a personalized plan of care that promotes faster recovery times while allowing the patient to remain in familiar surroundings. Some examples of these services include:

  • medication management
  • care for wounds and dressings
  • disease management
  • physical, occupational & speech therapies
  • pain management
  • catheter care
  • on-call care for 24 hour support
  • education to help care for your loved-one

Who Pays for Home Health Care?

Medicare, Medicaid and most private insurance cover services. Medicare patients must meet certain conditions for these services to be covered. We can help you determine how your care may be covered.

Who Can Receive Service?

For patients who qualify for Medicare, the patient must meet their definition of homebound: A normal inability to leave home and leaving the home requires considerable, taxing effort. A physician must also agree that skilled care is medically necessary. Patients also have the right to choose their own health care provider and federal law protects choice.
